30 min workout

Yesterday I did a 30 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-raises, glute-bridges and plank. I have been really pushing the limits of my strength this last few days and I'm hopeful to start seeing changes soon. Will keep this blog updated.

30min workout

Today I did a 30 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-raises and plank. It was very intense and I didn't slow down during the whole workout. My goal is to do this same routine daily until I reach my goal of being ripped.

Starting back up again

So finally, I have settled down after being on the move for the last few months. Not having a solid place to stay really disrupts the working out routine. I can safely say from experience that even the most dedicated person will find it difficult to work out everyday and stick to a healthy and nutritious diet if he is constantly moving his house or traveling a lot. A fixed schedule for work is an implicit fundamental for a solid consistent workout routine. Maybe that's why there are lots of soccer moms out there with ripped bodies and stories to tell of how they became ripped after having 3 kids. I don't know...it's just that I read about so many moms who have taken to fitness modeling competitions and done it successfully. Anyway, in my case I had to travel a lot in the last few months and my workouts have been very sporadic.

I have started out again this week now that I'm settled, and I managed to do a workout yesterday and the day before yesterday. I will continue with my posts after my workouts as before and hopefully this time, it will be a longer stretch before I have to travel again.

30 mins workout yesterday

Yesterday I did a 30 min workout which comprised of stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-raises and glute bridges. It has been a while since I did these excersises properly and yesterday was the first time Iactually did them properly after a long time. I'm getting back into my routine slowly and surely. Will post more when

Apologies for not posting: It's a been a busy few weeks

So it's been a busy couple of weeks and I've not been able to work out much at all. However, I did do a 20 min workout today and also ran a 10km run on Wednesday. The run was very good because I beat my best time for a 10km run from 53min 50 secs by 4 mins to complete it in 49 mins 56 secs.

35 min workout

Wow....could not work out yesterday due to heavy workload. So today was especially intense. I basically workout out really hard today for the full 35 mins. I did stretches, pushups, squats, crunches, plank, supermans, leg-lifts and glute-bridges. It felt good to do a really intense workout. I will definitely try to do this on a daily basis. I also have not done a long run in a while. Maybe I'll try to do a long run tomorrow. It will depend on how much work I can get done during the day. Balancing work, life and working out is a real challenge, and managing that balance is the critical part of making working out a lifestyle choice.

30 min run + 15 min workout

Today, I did not have enough energy and decided to do only a 5.4km run. Fortunately for me though, I managed to do it in record time. Normally it would take me about 32 mins to run this distance, but I did it in only 30 mins. I think I should go for a proper 10k run this week to see if I have improved on my overall 10k speed. We shall see. I also manged to do a 15 min workout which involved pushups, squats, glute-bridges, crunches, super mans and leg-raises. It wasn't too intensive because I was not feeling like a full workout. I will definitely do full workouts as much as possible during this week.

35 mins workout

Yesterday I did a 35 mins workout with pushups, crunches, squats, leg-lifts, glute-bridges, planks and supermans. I didn't have too much time to do the workout and had to juggle it between project meetings and a birthday party. I think I messed up my nutrition at the party though. So it was not a good day. I really have to eat clean tomorrow and for the rest of this week. Here's hoping for a 'well balanced meals' week.

41 mins workout

Yesterday I did a workout after a short break. This was mainly due to traveling which did not give me time to workout. However, today I exercised for 41 mins which is really long. But, I think I really needed it. I did stretches, pushups, crunches, squats, supermans, leg-lifts and glute-bridges. I will really have to catch up this week to make up for the 2 days that I was not able to workout. So I'm resolving to workout everyday this week in the hope to really get ahead.

33 mins run

Wow...today was an intense run. 33 mins of pure running. It was really intense and I was really traveling. Actually ran with a friend who was running quite fast. Although he managed to keep it up for 33 mins, I doubt he could have maintained the pace for about an hour. I'm guess we ran about 5 to 6km. Anyway the guy was an inexperienced runner and I let him control the pace. I think that I should take over next time. He was really finding it difficult towards the end mostly because he didn't pace himself well. Anyway he was a good running buddy and I'll try to convince him to join me on a another run in the near future.

32 mins Workout

Yesterday I managed to squeeze in a 32 min workout in between class and project meeting. I did pushups, squats, crunches, bicycle kicks, leg-lifts, plank, supermans and glute-bridges. It was very intensive an done with speed. I felt really good after the workout and think that more intensive workout like this are better. I'll try to incorporate more of these types of workouts in the future.

35 mins workout

Yesterday I did a 35 min workout with pushups, crunches, squats, leg-lifts, side-planks, and glute-bridges. The workout did not feel difficult and I had lots of energy even after the workout. But due to my workload I wasn't able to workout longer and had to run for a meeting. Anyway, I'll try to keep this up for this week even though I've got lots of work. Hopefully it won't bee too difficult.

Wow...super improvement

Today was great! I ran 10km in 53 mins 50 seconds. With is more than 1 min off my previous best. Anyone who runs long distances will tell you that shaving off even 30 seconds from your previous best when running long distances is a HUGE thing. My previous best was 55mins 12 seconds and I managed to beat that by 1 min 22 seconds. It seems that my training is truly paying off and I think I'm now ready for a half marathon. I'll probably try to run it within the next few months. I hope that I can maintain this stamina and speed until then. Anyway today was good. Here's hoping for more good runs in the future.

40 min workout

Today I did a 40 min workout with pushups, squats, supermans, leg-raises, side-planks, crunches and lunges. I tried lunges and don't see much benefit. I don't know why it's recommended by fitness experts, but I barely sweat when I do a lunge. It seems like a waste of time. I highly doubt it, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Anyway, I had to miss my workout yesterday because I had an appointment in the night. It really sucked and I couldn't wait until I got home today to do my workout. This is a very good sign and I am glad that I am in the frame of mind where I really look forward to a workout rather than treat a workout as a chore.

For those starting out with getting fit, let me tell you that the first few days are always the hardest. The key is to think about what you would you do with half an hour of your life if you were not working out. If the answer is browsing the internet or just watching TV, then working out stands out a clear better use of your time. Until you consciously think and do the comparison, you will not do your workout. It's as simple as that. For me anyway. I really struggled with my weight and was severely obese not too long ago. Now I am very close to actually being lean. It's been a long ride, but I've made it....in a sense. Just a little more to go.

40 min workout

Wow...today I worked out really late at night and managed to work out for 40 mins. Today I did stretches, pushups, crunches, leg-lifts, squats, glute-bridges and supermans.

I can sincerely say that today I am in the best shape that I have ever been in my entire life. I never thought that I could get shredded ever; but seeing the results today, I can say that being shredded is a possibility that is very close now. I didn't think that I would ever be able to say such a thing in my posts when I first started, and now I know that I will be able to say it in the near future.

I know that most people don't wake up in the morning and work out before going to work...I never do. However, for those morning exercises, this website has some suggestions on a workout routine. I however think that this routine can be done at any time of the day.

42 mins workout

Today I managed to do a 42 min workout which was longer than my previous best of 40 mins. The workout consisted of stretches, pushups, crunches, planks, leg-lifts, squats and supermans. I usually take a rest day after unusually long runs which was the 10k run that I did they day before yesterday. However, I didn't feel too tired yesterday and could have worked out, but decided not to risk injury. I think it's a sign that I am really getting stronger. It felt good to work out fully today and I didn't feel any problems when working out.

I found this great article on gymjunkies.com written by Vic Magary about fitness myths. The article is hilarious as he breaks down the myths that surround exercises, muscle building, supplements and fitness. Have a read of it when you've got some time.

10km in 55mins 17sec

Wow...I didn't think I would run another 10k so soon. This time I ran it in 55mins 17 seconds. Which is 5 seconds more than my last 10k one week ago. I'm glad I ran 10km again. This means that I've got a good chance to run the 21km half marathon this year. The 10km is getting easier and I think the half marathon should be within my endurance capability.

In the meantime, I found this great article about how to overcome the excuses to skip running. The article by www.besthealthmag.ca is very good for people who are constantly battling excuses to run. Everyone falls into this category, including myself. I am constantly battling my excuses and this article helps overcome some of them.

40 mins workout yesterday

As promised in my previous post, I managed to do a 40 min workout with stretches, pushups, crunches, squats, leg-lifts and supermans. The extra 10 mins really did make a difference in me. I was much more tired and it felt much more intense. I think my body had got used to the 30 mins workout and this change of 10 mins really kept it guess. It is important to keep the body guessing and I think this tactic really worked. I will have to look at different types of workouts to give it more work. I've got a few up my sleeve and will try them in the next workout. I found this website that breaks down a lot of the common exercises so that it is easier to do them. I will probably try some of them in my next workout.

40 mins workout

Wow....I missed my workout yesterday because I had to work really late (Came home at 11pm). So today I decided to push myself as hard as possible. I managed to do a 40 min workout instead of my usual 30 min workout and I think I made up for yesterday a little. Tomorrow, I will push myself again and see if I can hit 40 mins of continuous workout. So in today's workout I managed to do stretches, pushups, squats, crunches, supermans, plank and leg-lifts.

In the meantime, I came across this article about the world's heaviest people...and boy do they look HUGE. You might ask how they let themselves go to such weights; but in reality it is so easy to just become fat. The human species has had to survive for millenia without sufficient food and has adapted to storing food whenever it can. Only recently has there been food in abundance on Earth - past 50 to100 years. So the natural state of the body is to store food and become as fat as possible. This therefore makes it a constant battle with the body for those of us who want to stay lean. This is why we need to work out EVERYDAY as much as possible to stay lean. For inspiration, please check out www.simplyshredded.com which has great interviews with champion athletes who share their stories with the website. These stories truly highlight the effort needed to maintain a lean physique and make us realize how hard we really need to work to stay lean and be shredded!

33 mins workout

Today I did a 33 mins workout with stretches, pushups, crunches, squats, supermans and leg-lifts. It was much easier than I expected as I had taken a 2 day break to recover from my 10km run. Maybe my body had rebuilt itself during those 2 days and I had more energy to do the workout. However, 2 day breaks are not going to happen again if I can help it; even if I do a 10km run. Hopefully the next run will be longer and I will get more prepared for my 21km run that I wan to do this year.

10km in 55mins 21sec

I finally managed to do a 10km. Unfortunately it wasn't at an official race. I just measured the distance around my campus using google maps and ran the route. Unlike in official events, there were no cheerleaders or water stations along the route. This made it tough to complete the course. However, I guess my workouts have been making me really fit and I completed it in 55mins 21 secs. This is my best time for a 10km ever. I'm still recovering from it as I just completed the run an hour ago. I don't feel very tired though and I think that I can run farther for an official event in the near future.

40 mins run + 15 mins workout

Today I ran for 40 mins cos I hadn't run for a while and needed a cardio workout. I didn't really calculate the distance that I ran because I wanted to run for a long time. So I'm guessing the distance is around 6.5km based on my average speed. I also managed to do a 15 min workout with pushups, supermans and crunches. It wasn't a long workout, but I was feeling a little tired so I decided to stop while I was ahead. I also found this website about increasing flexibility and it does seem worth a try.

30 mins Workout

Today I did a 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, crunches, squats, supermans and leg-lifts. I delayed my workout and finally did it late at night which is not a good thing. But, I still did it, despite it being late in the night. So I'm glad that I managed it. It felt good, but the downside of doing the workout at night is that my metabolism is so high that I'm not able to sleep. So here's to hoping that I get some sleep today. Also...This website gives some basic information about home exercises that I will probably include into my routine in the future. My current exercises are getting a little boring.

30 mins Workout

Today I did a 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, squats, crunches, plank, supermans, and leg-lifts. I really didn't have the motivation to workout today, so I watched one of the new videos uploaded by bodyrock.tv today and immediately had the inspiration to workout. I know that motivation is one of the key reasons for my visiting bodyrock.tv and today's video was very inspirational. In the video, Zuzana talks only about her diet problems and how she also has problems coping with proper nutrition by over-eating etc. It's great that she told us viewers this. NONE of the other instructors in other websites ever confess their problems to us normal folk just trying to reduce weight and get a great body. This video had no workouts but truly inspired me to do a killer workout. Truly inspiring...

30 mins workout

Today I did a 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, squats, crunches, leg-lifts and supermans. The progress has been good the last week and the results are becoming more visible daily. I will be doing more cardio to improve my fat burn which I think is the major limiting factor at my current state. In the meantime, I need to make sure that I eat right. Snacks like those mentioned at www.coreperformance.com are really useful when suddenly craving something to eat. At least they are nutritious and are not junk food.

6.8km in 40 mins + 20 mins workout

Today I decided to do cardio + a workout. The run was much faster than my previous one and I managed to do 6.8km in 40 mins which make my rate 5.88mins/km. I'm sure that I can reduce that to 5.55 for my 10km run in 1 month's time. I also did a 20 min workout with pushups, crunches, leg-lifts, lunges and stretches. I'm not doing enough cardio for my own good. I suppose its because I need to get new shoes. I have been using New Balance so far and am very happy with it. I wonder if I should stick to it or buy a new brand. I heard that mizuno and asics are the best for running. But I've not tried them and I'm not sure if I should go for a new brand.

30 mins workout yesterday

Yesterday I did another 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-lifts, and plank. I also tried walking lunges for the first time and they seem to be a really good exercise. I will probably make them a routine exercise in the future. Trying to get cardio into my routine is difficult as it was raining again today. What the hell is wrong with the cold rainy English weather. Can't wait to get back to tropical climates so that I can do my cardio properly. Again for inspiration I came across Glenda's story on on livestrong.com

30 min workout yesterday

Yesterday I did a 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-lifts, and plank. Keeping up with the workouts is getting really hard with energy levels and motivations being low whenever I plan for the exercise. The stupid English rainy weather also doesn't help at all with my cardio routine. Have to wait for a dry day to do the cardio...which may be never in England. For motivation I rely on scooby a lot. His success story page is very inspirational and his new list uploaded today on his new domain getfit4free.org is good inspiration for my next few workouts.

30 mins workout

Today I did a 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-lifts, and plank. It was an intense workout because I really was motivated just before the workout. I realise that it's important to get motivation before a workout and will be looking out for motivation tips for future workouts. In the meantime, websites like www.simplyshredded.com is a good motivational site for me.

Rest Day + 30 mins workout

Took a rest day yesterday, but managed to do a complete 30 min workout today. The workout comprised of stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, supermans, planks, bicycle-kicks and leg-lifts.

Most people think that in order to workout you have to go to a gym. I have been doing all my workouts at home with just an exercise mat; and the results are phenomenal. While some minor equipment would be useful, it is not necessary in order to get a great workout. Your body has enough weight to challenge you, and even doing simple pushups can be challenging for seasoned trainers. This website is an example of the 30 mins workouts available out there that can give you the training you need without going to the gym.

5.13km in 32 mins + Workout

Today I tried a new route which was 5.13km which I managed to do in 32 mins. It was a little slow. But that was because I slowed down at different junctions to get my bearings. Anyway, I still came back and did 15 mins of pushups, crunches, leg-lifts supermans and plank. It was a good combination of running and workouts. I think I will make this combination every time I run. It felt good.

One way I measure how far I have run is by using the distance measurement tool in google maps. This should be enabled in the labs settings of the maps and allows distances to be measured very accurately. This is a great tool for calculating distances that you have run.

25 mins workout

Sorry I didn't post for the past 5 days, I was on really low energy while lectures started as well. The combination did not give me an opportunity to work out. Anyway I did work out today for 25 mins with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, plank and supermans. I'm gonna try to be more consistent and not have such a long break again. It probably undid at least 1 week of my workouts - which is not good. I also found this good site called www.simplyshredded.com which had some really good tips about working out. I hope it helps.

6.6km in 38mins 41sec

Yesterday I ran 6.6km in 38mins 41sec. This equates to about 5.87 mins/km which is ok. However, I believe that if I run a full 10km, that time will drop to around 5.5 mins/km. I will sign up for a proper 10km race soon. It's been a while since I've done a 10k and I think it's time that I find a race to try it again. On the whole I ran more than expected today and I think I will increase the distance for the next run as well. I also may need to get new running shoes as the mileage on my current shoes seem to have run out. In the meantime, please read this article by scooby on why cardio is important.

33 min workout

Yesterday I managed to increase my workout time by 3 mins. In my 33 mins I managed to do stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, planks, supermans, leg-lifts and scissor-legs. Some of these exercises are actually not easy for beginners. This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa5Li3edwl4) shows how to do the plank with proper technique and is for more advanced trainers. However I usually do a simple plank by just holding in the plank position for about 1 min...like in this video(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHQmRINu4jU).

30 mins workout

Yesterday I did a 30 mins workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-lifts, planks and supermans. The motivation is difficult, but one of the ways that I motivate myself is by watching episodes of the Biggest Loser. The huge weight losses by the contestants is a real inspiration for those of us trying to get in shape. This is perhaps one of the greatest inspirations out there. If they can do it, so can we.

5.4km in 31min 53s

Yesterday I ran 5.4km in 31 mins 53 sec. This is at least 1.5mins faster than my previous timing which means that I am improving very fast. Now that I have less work, I am able to concentrate on my fitness better. I also managed to do 10 mins of pushups, plank, and situps. I will try to increase that to 15 or 20 mins next time. One of the good site for learning new bodyweight training exercises is bodyrock.tv's youtube site - Charliejames1975. It is a great channel for learning new exercises and I highly recommend it for beginners.

30 min workout

Yesterday I manged to do a 30 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, leg-lifts, plank and supermans. It was really difficult to get the motivation to start the workout, but after starting it, it was very easy and felt good. Success stories like this are what motivates people to workout.

Listening to your body + 30 min workout

I had to take a rest day yesterday cos my body was really aching. The short break from my workouts probably had something to do with it. The good thing was that I listened to my body and took the day off instead of forcing myself to do the workout. The key to working out on a continuous basis is to listen to your body and respond accordingly. I'm glad I did it cos I was fully recovered today and managed to do a full proper 30 min workout today. The workout consisted of stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, supermans and leg-lifts. My inspiration comes from bodyrock.tv where they workout everyday and just watching the daily video is enough motivation to get started which is the most difficult part of working out.

Monday, April 25, 2011

30 min workout

Today I did a 30 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, bicycle kicks and leg lifts. The motivation to do this workout after my break was very difficult. Credit goes to bodyrock.tv for keeping on posting new workouts everyday. I used this to get motivated today and after I started, I immediately felt great.

30 min run after a long time

So I apologise for not posting recently due to a lot of traveling. This has also interrupted my routine with me being able to work out only sporadically. I did try to follow Scooby's tips on how to work out during travel, but it's not easy when you've got friends accompanying you during your travel. The difficulty in organising your schedule around their requirements is a bit of a problem with the workout thing.

Anyway I am back in the saddle and managed to do a 30 min run today to restart my exercise challenges. It took me 33 mins 30s to run 5.4km. I didn't do any other workout today as I didn't want to exert my body after a break. I'll work out tomorrow and post the results of that.

30 min Workout

I was not able to workout for the past 2 days; but I managed to workout today. With exams these days, it is very difficult to manage the time. Anyway, today I managed to do 30 mins of pushups, situps, crunches, stretches, leg-stretches, and skipping.

30 mins workout

I have not been able to workout for the past 5 days due to heavy workload. Sometimes in life, there are periods like this. I think that I must counter such periods by trying to workout in the morning so that droughts such as this do not happen again. Anyway today I managed to do 30 mins of stretches, pushups, situps, squats, crunches, leg extensions and some skipping. Didn't have the skipping rope, so I just did the jumps.

Today I managed to do a 30 mins workout consisting of stretches, situps, pushups, squats, crunches and leg lifts. It was not very difficult working out today for some reason. 30 mins Workout

Yesterday I missed my workout because I had to travel somewhere. So I considered it my rest day and I worked out today which included stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, plank, and 5 mins of skipping. It felt good, but not great. I think this was partly due to the mood to do the workout today. For a mood changer, I always look at pictures like the one below, which works most of the time.

30 min Workout

Today was a good day because I didn't feel like I was not in the mood to workout. I actually looked forward to it. I managed to doa 30 min workout consisting of stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, bicycle kicks, one-leg hops and lifts. This video was really inspirational and I really think that such a transformation is possible for the average person.

30 min Workout

Yesterday I did a 30 min workout with stretches, pushups, crunches, plank and situps. My progress is improving and I am watching my diet very carefully. Yesterday I ran 5.4km in 33 mins 54 secs. It was slower than my previous time, but that was because I wanted to take it a little slow yesterday. I will improve this time in my next run.

Monday 28th Feb - 5.4km in 32 mins 11 secs

On Monday I managed to run 5.4km in 32mins 11 secs which was the best time I have done in a long while. I think that I can improve on this as I get stronger.

Have been working out, but not posting

Sorry about not posting the last few days, but I haven't had the time to get around to it. Anyway, on Friday, I managed to do a 40 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, bicycle kicks, crunches, planks, and side-planks.

On Saturday, I managed to do a 30 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, bicycle kicks, crunches, planks and side-planks. The visible improvement is real and very encouraging.

5.5km in 33 mins 55s

Today I managed to run 5.5km in 33 mins 55s. It was difficult because it was very cold and windy outside. But the run was worth it. Now I only have to watch my diet; otherwise my work would be wasted.

5.4km run + 15 min workout

Today I was able to run 5.4km in 32mins 27sec. This was an ok timing because it was really cold and windy outside today. So I'm glad I ran anyway. I also managed to do a 15 min workout consisting of stretches, pushups, situps, side-plank, bicycle kicks and crunches. I just did half the number of reps that I normally do due to the run.

35 mins of workout

Yesterday I did a 35 min workout with stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, bicycle kicks, plank and side-plank. The workouts are really doing good. It is a just a matter of time. Will look to go for a long run today to burn some fat.

7.6km in 48 mins

Today I managed to run the longest I have in a while. My timing was bad because I was running with a friend who was slow and kept stopping to tie his shoelaces. But 7.6km is quite good after a long time. Will to do it again soon.

40 min workout

Today, I managed to squeeze in a 40 min workout into my busy day. I was able to do stretches, pushups, situps, crunches, bicycle kicks, plank and side-plank. Progress is real and visible, while my motivation is increasing. I realise that I have to run more frequently to increase fat burn and I will do that on a more regular basis now that the weather is getting warmer. Cold weather sucks.

20 min workout

I only managed to do a 20 min workout consisting of stretches, pushups, situps, plank and bicycle kick today because I was tired. Got back from work late at night and even though I wanted to just grab dinner and sleep, I forced my self to do the workout. I managed to do it because of some good advice I read somewhere which said that you must get angry at your laziness (your body) in order to push yourself to workout. It works.

5km in 29mins 25s + Workout

Today was a good day. I managed to do a 5km run in 29mins 25s. Immediately after, I also squeezed in a 20min workout with pushups, situps, plank, crunches and bicycle kicks.

With the reduced workload from my course, I am finally getting back into the proper rhythm again. I will be posting soon again. Progress is visible now.

Apologies for not posting...

So I apologise to those following my blog for not posting. I had to shift countries and this kinda hit my routine. I didn't quit working out though. I still managed to get at least 2 to 3 days of working out or running since my last post. the problem was that I was not able to post my progress due to heavy workload. I will try to post now that things have settled somewhat.

Today I ran 5.72km in 33.5mins. Which is a good time considering that I have not been practicing. Anyway, more posts in the future.
