35 min workout

Wow....could not work out yesterday due to heavy workload. So today was especially intense. I basically workout out really hard today for the full 35 mins. I did stretches, pushups, squats, crunches, plank, supermans, leg-lifts and glute-bridges. It felt good to do a really intense workout. I will definitely try to do this on a daily basis. I also have not done a long run in a while. Maybe I'll try to do a long run tomorrow. It will depend on how much work I can get done during the day. Balancing work, life and working out is a real challenge, and managing that balance is the critical part of making working out a lifestyle choice.

30 min run + 15 min workout

Today, I did not have enough energy and decided to do only a 5.4km run. Fortunately for me though, I managed to do it in record time. Normally it would take me about 32 mins to run this distance, but I did it in only 30 mins. I think I should go for a proper 10k run this week to see if I have improved on my overall 10k speed. We shall see. I also manged to do a 15 min workout which involved pushups, squats, glute-bridges, crunches, super mans and leg-raises. It wasn't too intensive because I was not feeling like a full workout. I will definitely do full workouts as much as possible during this week.

35 mins workout

Yesterday I did a 35 mins workout with pushups, crunches, squats, leg-lifts, glute-bridges, planks and supermans. I didn't have too much time to do the workout and had to juggle it between project meetings and a birthday party. I think I messed up my nutrition at the party though. So it was not a good day. I really have to eat clean tomorrow and for the rest of this week. Here's hoping for a 'well balanced meals' week.

41 mins workout

Yesterday I did a workout after a short break. This was mainly due to traveling which did not give me time to workout. However, today I exercised for 41 mins which is really long. But, I think I really needed it. I did stretches, pushups, crunches, squats, supermans, leg-lifts and glute-bridges. I will really have to catch up this week to make up for the 2 days that I was not able to workout. So I'm resolving to workout everyday this week in the hope to really get ahead.

33 mins run

Wow...today was an intense run. 33 mins of pure running. It was really intense and I was really traveling. Actually ran with a friend who was running quite fast. Although he managed to keep it up for 33 mins, I doubt he could have maintained the pace for about an hour. I'm guess we ran about 5 to 6km. Anyway the guy was an inexperienced runner and I let him control the pace. I think that I should take over next time. He was really finding it difficult towards the end mostly because he didn't pace himself well. Anyway he was a good running buddy and I'll try to convince him to join me on a another run in the near future.

32 mins Workout

Yesterday I managed to squeeze in a 32 min workout in between class and project meeting. I did pushups, squats, crunches, bicycle kicks, leg-lifts, plank, supermans and glute-bridges. It was very intensive an done with speed. I felt really good after the workout and think that more intensive workout like this are better. I'll try to incorporate more of these types of workouts in the future.

35 mins workout

Yesterday I did a 35 min workout with pushups, crunches, squats, leg-lifts, side-planks, and glute-bridges. The workout did not feel difficult and I had lots of energy even after the workout. But due to my workload I wasn't able to workout longer and had to run for a meeting. Anyway, I'll try to keep this up for this week even though I've got lots of work. Hopefully it won't bee too difficult.

Wow...super improvement

Today was great! I ran 10km in 53 mins 50 seconds. With is more than 1 min off my previous best. Anyone who runs long distances will tell you that shaving off even 30 seconds from your previous best when running long distances is a HUGE thing. My previous best was 55mins 12 seconds and I managed to beat that by 1 min 22 seconds. It seems that my training is truly paying off and I think I'm now ready for a half marathon. I'll probably try to run it within the next few months. I hope that I can maintain this stamina and speed until then. Anyway today was good. Here's hoping for more good runs in the future.

40 min workout

Today I did a 40 min workout with pushups, squats, supermans, leg-raises, side-planks, crunches and lunges. I tried lunges and don't see much benefit. I don't know why it's recommended by fitness experts, but I barely sweat when I do a lunge. It seems like a waste of time. I highly doubt it, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Anyway, I had to miss my workout yesterday because I had an appointment in the night. It really sucked and I couldn't wait until I got home today to do my workout. This is a very good sign and I am glad that I am in the frame of mind where I really look forward to a workout rather than treat a workout as a chore.

For those starting out with getting fit, let me tell you that the first few days are always the hardest. The key is to think about what you would you do with half an hour of your life if you were not working out. If the answer is browsing the internet or just watching TV, then working out stands out a clear better use of your time. Until you consciously think and do the comparison, you will not do your workout. It's as simple as that. For me anyway. I really struggled with my weight and was severely obese not too long ago. Now I am very close to actually being lean. It's been a long ride, but I've made it....in a sense. Just a little more to go.

40 min workout

Wow...today I worked out really late at night and managed to work out for 40 mins. Today I did stretches, pushups, crunches, leg-lifts, squats, glute-bridges and supermans.

I can sincerely say that today I am in the best shape that I have ever been in my entire life. I never thought that I could get shredded ever; but seeing the results today, I can say that being shredded is a possibility that is very close now. I didn't think that I would ever be able to say such a thing in my posts when I first started, and now I know that I will be able to say it in the near future.

I know that most people don't wake up in the morning and work out before going to work...I never do. However, for those morning exercises, this website has some suggestions on a workout routine. I however think that this routine can be done at any time of the day.

42 mins workout

Today I managed to do a 42 min workout which was longer than my previous best of 40 mins. The workout consisted of stretches, pushups, crunches, planks, leg-lifts, squats and supermans. I usually take a rest day after unusually long runs which was the 10k run that I did they day before yesterday. However, I didn't feel too tired yesterday and could have worked out, but decided not to risk injury. I think it's a sign that I am really getting stronger. It felt good to work out fully today and I didn't feel any problems when working out.

I found this great article on gymjunkies.com written by Vic Magary about fitness myths. The article is hilarious as he breaks down the myths that surround exercises, muscle building, supplements and fitness. Have a read of it when you've got some time.

10km in 55mins 17sec

Wow...I didn't think I would run another 10k so soon. This time I ran it in 55mins 17 seconds. Which is 5 seconds more than my last 10k one week ago. I'm glad I ran 10km again. This means that I've got a good chance to run the 21km half marathon this year. The 10km is getting easier and I think the half marathon should be within my endurance capability.

In the meantime, I found this great article about how to overcome the excuses to skip running. The article by www.besthealthmag.ca is very good for people who are constantly battling excuses to run. Everyone falls into this category, including myself. I am constantly battling my excuses and this article helps overcome some of them.

40 mins workout yesterday

As promised in my previous post, I managed to do a 40 min workout with stretches, pushups, crunches, squats, leg-lifts and supermans. The extra 10 mins really did make a difference in me. I was much more tired and it felt much more intense. I think my body had got used to the 30 mins workout and this change of 10 mins really kept it guess. It is important to keep the body guessing and I think this tactic really worked. I will have to look at different types of workouts to give it more work. I've got a few up my sleeve and will try them in the next workout. I found this website that breaks down a lot of the common exercises so that it is easier to do them. I will probably try some of them in my next workout.

40 mins workout

Wow....I missed my workout yesterday because I had to work really late (Came home at 11pm). So today I decided to push myself as hard as possible. I managed to do a 40 min workout instead of my usual 30 min workout and I think I made up for yesterday a little. Tomorrow, I will push myself again and see if I can hit 40 mins of continuous workout. So in today's workout I managed to do stretches, pushups, squats, crunches, supermans, plank and leg-lifts.

In the meantime, I came across this article about the world's heaviest people...and boy do they look HUGE. You might ask how they let themselves go to such weights; but in reality it is so easy to just become fat. The human species has had to survive for millenia without sufficient food and has adapted to storing food whenever it can. Only recently has there been food in abundance on Earth - past 50 to100 years. So the natural state of the body is to store food and become as fat as possible. This therefore makes it a constant battle with the body for those of us who want to stay lean. This is why we need to work out EVERYDAY as much as possible to stay lean. For inspiration, please check out www.simplyshredded.com which has great interviews with champion athletes who share their stories with the website. These stories truly highlight the effort needed to maintain a lean physique and make us realize how hard we really need to work to stay lean and be shredded!
